چکیده

Recent progress of solar cells based on plasma deposited hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (PCSi:H), as well as on combined a-Si:H/pc-Si:H stacked “micromorph” solar cells is reported. kc-Si:H p-i-n cells with a thickness of 3.6 pm, deposited with the use of a gas-purifier, are shown to have a short-circuit current of over 25 mAlcm2, and a stable efficiency of 7.7%. a-Si:H/pc-Si:H tandem cells with 13% initial, and with 10% degraded state efficiency are also demonstrated. In addition, methods to further increase the efficiency of combined a-Si:H/pc-Si:H solar cells are discussed. This includes the introduction of a ZnO reflector layer between a-Si:H and pc-Si:H component cells, a new concept of which first experimental results are given.

Latest Results on Stabilized Flexible Thin Film Silicon Solar Cells

Our primary goal is to increase the stabilized efficiency of thin film silicon solar cells in the substrate (nip) configuration by using textured substrates and tandem structures, based on amorphous (a-Si:H) and microcrystalline silicon (μc-Si:H). In order to reduce costs of mass-produced thin film solar modules, special attention has been paid in developing processes compatible with plastic fo...

Thin-film Silicon Solar Cells for Space Applications: Radiation Hardness and Applications for an Integrated Solant (solar Cell - Antenna) Module

A new device called “Solant” (for SOLar cell – ANTenna) is presented in this paper. It is a combination of thin-film amorphous silicon solar cells and flat printed antennas. A proton irradiation campaign has also been carried out on a series of n-i-p amorphous and p-i-n micromorph [microcrystalline (μc-Si:H) and amorphous (a-Si:H)] silicon tandem solar cells. The effect of thermal annealing on ...

Flexible micromorph tandem a-Si/ c-Si solar cells

The deposition of a stack of amorphous a-Si:H and microcrystalline c-Si:H tandem thin film silicon solar cells micromorph requires at least twice the time used for a single junction a-Si:H cell. However, micromorph devices have a higher potential efficiency, thanks to the broader absorption spectrum of c-Si:H material. High efficiencies can only be achieved by mitigating the nanocracks in the c...

Efficient water-splitting device based on a bismuth vanadate photoanode and thin-film silicon solar cells.

A hybrid photovoltaic/photoelectrochemical (PV/PEC) water-splitting device with a benchmark solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 5.2% under simulated air mass (AM) 1.5 illumination is reported. This cell consists of a gradient-doped tungsten-bismuth vanadate (W:BiVO4 ) photoanode and a thin-film silicon solar cell. The improvement with respect to an earlier cell that also used gradient-do...

Flexcellence : towards Roll-to-roll Mass-production of Low Cost Thin Film Silicon Solar Cells

We report on the “mid-term” results obtained in the frame of the European FLEXCELLENCE project (www.unine.ch/flex). FLEXCELLENCE aims at developing the equipment and the processes for cost-effective roll-to-roll production of high-efficiency thin-film modules, based on amorphous (a-Si:H) and microcrystalline silicon (μc-Si:H). Eight partners, with extended experience in complementary fields ran...
